Travelers Championship Announces Full Player Field

CROMWELL, Conn., Friday, June 19, 2009- The Travelers Championship will be held June 22 -28 at TPC River Highlands, and will feature one of the most exciting and competitive player fields that the event has experienced. Golf fans have much to look forward to on the course when competition begins among some of the world’s best golfers, including 10 players who are Major Champions; 35 players who have won PGA TOUR events in the past two years; twelve of the Top 30 on the PGA TOUR Money List and 14 players in the Top 50 on the Official World Golf Rankings. Collectively, the player field has 296 PGA TOUR victories.

Most recent commitments to the field include 2008 Ryder Cup Captain and two-time past champion Paul Azinger; 2003 British Open Champion Ben Curtis; four-time winner on the PGA TOUR Tim Herron; No. 43 ranked player in the world Dustin Johnson; and Aaron Baddeley, who has had two PGA TOUR victories.

The 156-player field has five remaining spots, which will be filled by four Open Qualifiers and one Sponsors Exemption. The Travelers Championship Open Qualifier will be held at Bull’s Bridge Golf Club on Monday, June 22. Prior to the competition rounds, Travelers Championship action begins on Wednesday, June 24 when Hollywood stars and sports legends will tee it up in the Travelers Celebrity Pro-Am. Participating celebrities include actors Luke Wilson, Joe Pesci, Aidan Quinn, Rob Morrow and James Naughton, ESPN personalities Chris Berman and Karl Ravech, Boston Celtics Guard Ray Allen, New England Patriots Head Coach Bill Belichick, Baseball Hall of Famer Sandy Koufax, Pro Football Hall of Famer Roger Staubach, Red Sox legend and MLB All Star Dwight Evans, former New England Patriots Quarterback Doug Flutie, University of Connecticut Coaches Chris Dailey and Randy Edsall and University of Hartford Coach Jennifer Rizzotti.

Throughout the tournament, the Travelers Championship will complement an exciting week of PGA TOUR golf with a variety of new fan enhancements including the Subway Fan Zone on the course, a special Women’s Day program on Thursday, the Michelob ULTRA 19th Hole Concert Series to be held immediately following play on Friday and Saturday and more.

The Travelers Championship will be televised domestically and internationally. The first and second rounds will be broadcast live on Golf Channel and the third and fourth rounds will be broadcast live on CBS.
